Eureka North South Multi-Modal Corridor Project

Project Dates:
2017
Funding Organizations:
Caltrans Sustainable Communities Grant
Cooperating Agencies:
City of Eureka, TJKM

RCAA assisted the City of Eureka on a Caltrans' Sustainable Communities Grant application that was successfully awarded for multimodal transportation design, planning, and technical assistance to complete a multimodal plan for the City. The project area, between J and E Streets from 6th Street to Harris Street, was assessed to enhance safety and mobility for all transportation modes and foster vibrant neighborhoods and business districts. RCAA convened a Project Task Force, led planning meetings, and facilitated multiple public workshops to engage community members, local youth, and business owners in the project. Through interactive mapping exercises and small group dialogue, participants provided input on concept designs to create a safer, more convenient and accessible walking and bicycling environment along Eureka's main north-south corridors. RCAA also developed and installed a temporary “pop-up” infrastructure demonstration to give community members a sense of what these types of infrastructure improvements could look like on the ground. The City of Eureka will apply for funding through the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) to implement safety designs developed through this project.
